Grand Theatre Presents: Mark Uhre’s Grand Re:Opening Festival Online (featuring “Seeds of Self”)
Beginning in the month of June, individuals across the globe come together to recognize the impact that 2SLGBTQ+ individuals have had – and continue to make – on society, while working to advance equal justice and equal opportunity for members within these often-marginalized communities. As an institution committed to inclusivity and highlighting diverse stories on our stages, and in celebration of PRIDE, the Grand Theatre is thrilled to re-broadcast its Fall 2021 Grand Re:Opening Festival performance of Seeds of Self – created and performed by accomplished actor, singer, dancer, and visual artist, Mark Uhre.
In his coming-of-age memory play, “Seeds of Self,” Mark Uhre takes audiences on an intimate, personal journey that explores Uhre’s experience growing up as a young, gay boy in London, Ontario. Uhre shares his story through movement, text, and art-making, combined with thrilling original music composed by Wayne Gwillim, and paired with songs from the ‘golden age.’
In addition to “Seeds of Self” viewers will also see a short documentary presentation, which addresses arts within the young LGBTQ2+ community in London, Ontario. Concluding this journey of self, viewers will experience an immersive artistic encounter with Uhre, combined with music by singer songwriter, Noelle Francis.
